D&RGW High Side Gondolas

Whether you have a fledgling or well-established HOn3 railroad, you are going to need to be able to haul coal, rock and precious minerals by the ton! OK, maybe by the ounce. Blackstone Models has just the car for you.

Between 1898 and 1906, the D&RGW purchased approximately 1300 narrow gauge gondolas from American Car & Foundry. These new cars replaced an array of well-used and worn out gondolas and became the mainstay of the railroad's gondola fleet toward the end of operations. In addition to coal, these cars often handled limestone, precious minerals, pipe, maintenance equipment, and an array of other commodities as the need arose. Most of these cars were rebuilt in the early 1920's and ended up with five sideboards to increase their capacity. Blackstone Models HOn3 High Side Gondolas represent these cars after rebuilding and will be equipped with the cast "economy" draft gear, varying paint shades, unique detailing and optional weathering. Various road numbers will feature the three popular D&RGW heralds as shown in the photos below. Reserve your fleet today!

There are four high side gondola numbers featuring the D&RGW Flying Grande livery (Nos. 1133, 1267, 1258 and 1300). All road numbers are available both weathered and non-weathered. The No. 1133 and 1300 have a 'freshly shopped' paint scheme or are available with light weathering. The 1267 will be painted with the 'lightly sun-faded' paint scheme or light weathering and the 1258 will sport the 'more sun-faded' paint scheme or the weathered version of the same.

There are two high side gondola road numbers featuring the Royal Gorge Route livery (Nos. 1036, 1331). Both will be painted the 'lightly sun-faded' scheme or available with light weathering.

New D&RGW 1000 Series High Side Gondolas are scheduled for delivery in December 2008.
