Secound Release Flat Cars (12/10/08)

Five of Blackstone Models' new HOn3 Flat Cars represent the appearance of the car in D&RGW revenue service throughout much of the early 20th Century and into the 1940s. With its wood grain deck appearance, and various paint shades, light weathering and road numbers, this flat car will also fit in well with your favorite work train. We have used a combination of plastic and die-cast parts to create a thoughtfully weighted and balanced car that will cut into virtually any consist and run in the same smooth-rolling manner to which Blackstone Models customers have become accustomed.

There are five flatcar numbers featuring the D&RGW livery (Nos. 6004, 6023, 6033, 6041 and 6057). All road numbers feature our popular 'weathered' paint scheme and the enhanced wood grain decking.
The No. 6033 and 6057 have a 'freshly shopped' paint scheme under the light weathering. The 6004, and 6023 are painted with the 'lightly sun-faded' paint scheme and light weathering. The 6041 is painted with the 'more sun-faded' paint scheme under light weathering.

Rio Grande Southern Flat Car!

In May of 1892, at least 10 of the 6000 series flat cars were transferred to the fledgling Rio Grande Southern Railroad and converted to construction cars. Most of them were eventually changed to revenue or work car service. The RGS 615 is painted with the 'lightly sun-faded' paint scheme and light weathering.

Of all car designs in the rolling stock fleet of the Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge, the flatcar was without question the most versatile, and most abused! Their many uses stemmed from their relative lack of restrictions for the kinds of loads they could bear. Ranging from lumber to farm and industrial equipment, many diverse lading combinations were possible. In essence, if a load was not a good fit for a boxcar, a flat could fill the bill.
